The Swizzle Stick Band, formed in 2007 (or "SSB" as we call it for short!), truly evolved from a jam session! Some band members got together at a party many years ago just to jam and then did it again and again until a band was formed! We've been known to jam out on a tune or improvise something midstream without a hitch. It makes every performance exciting for the listeners and the band. Everyone has a good time and loves playing music.
The players come from a wide variety of backgrounds - many even studied music in college - covering many genres, including jazz, funk, blues, rock, country, classical and more. This diversity of skills, along with the horn line, gives "SSB" a big sound, unlike any other band. We love to see the audience get up and dance and move, so we strive for an exciting and fun show!
We have performed at many venues in NE Ohio and Western, PA, including many summer concerts and special events including the Akron Summer Concert Series, Wade Oval in Cleveland, The Stone Soul Festival, First and Main, Lock 3, Springfield Lake's "Rock the Docks," Crocker Park, Bavarian Fun Fest in Sharon, PA, and many town community days and civic events in the area. We have played weddings and parties also and pleased the group every time! You can often find us performing at area clubs as well.
The Swizzle Stick Band has been recognized in many local media outlets, including The Akron Beacon Journal, The West Side Leader, The Falls Press, and Fox 8, to name a few.
We are available for clubs, special events, and receptions or about anywhere you want a very professional and exciting Motown/Funk band!
In Memory of Our Friend, "Chef Tray" Tray was always helping others and was the "Chef Extraordinaire" at The Getaway. He loved the bands that went there to play and always sang "Johnny B. Goode" with us every time we played there. Tray, say hello to Mike up there, and make some great music together up there until we join you. RIP
In Memory of Our Friend & Bandmate, Mike Chopka Mike played his last gig on Earth with us on January 20, 2007, and joined the band in the heavens in August 2007. His backup percussion sounds and always cheerful - no matter what! - spirit is missed by us all. RIP
